Cautions and Contraindications
Pregnancy and Lactation: Modern medical references advise against using Black Haw during pregnancy (especially early terms) or breastfeeding unless strictly supervised by an expert herbalist or physician, due to potential strong uterine activity.
Aspirin Allergies: Black Haw contains natural salicylate compounds chemically similar to aspirin. Individuals with aspirin sensitivities or asthma triggered by NSAIDs should avoid it.
Kidney Stones: The plant contains oxalic acid, which may increase the risk of stone formation in predisposed individuals.
Blood Thinners: Because of its salicylate content, it may theoretically increase bleeding risks if combined with anticoagulant medications.
